TO FOSTER PUBLIC AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE MCMINNVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT’S MISSION AND ROLE IN OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH CITIZENS PARTICIPATION AND EDUCATION.

The City of McMinnville Fire Department advances public safety through fire prevention, public education and training of our personnel.  These services enable the City of McMinnville Fire Department to make significant contributions to the safety of our residents and visitors.

Attendance
The Citizens Fire Academy is scheduled for eight weeks.  Classes will be held on Thursday nights from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. You should be committed to attending all classes.

Participation
All practical exercises and classroom presentations have been put together to give you a realistic idea of what a firefighter’s job is all about.  You are not required to complete every exercise to graduate.  If for some reason you feel that you cannot participate in a practical exercise or watch a presentation, inform the instructor and you will be excused from participating.  You will be asked to fill out a weekly critique sheet at the end of each meeting.  This will help us improve the Academy each year.  Be very honest, we can take it.  Your positive and negative comments will be appreciated.

Safety
All fire ground training will be done with protective equipment worn by all participants.  Instructions will be given by fire department instructors with the safety of all persons on the fire ground in mind.  These instructions must be obeyed to the letter.  Horseplay and practical jokes are forbidden on the fire ground and the training ground.  No running on the fire ground or the training ground.  Anyone riding the fire apparatus shall be seated with the seatbelts fastened.
