A Taste of Underground

, we will be hosting a local battle of the bands at the Park Theater on April 2nd during the PBS taping weekend, whose winner will be awarded with playing the venue of the "Greatest show under Earth" inside Cumberland Cavern's Volcano Room for the January 2017 Bluegrass Underground show. The show will be recorded and edited for broadcast at a later date. As for the local food, there will be a battle of the chefs. Local cooking teams will be comprised of local restaurants or food trucks paired with local farms to present the local farm product in a tasting menu. The cooking tea...m must consist of at least one current or former resident of Warren County. The farms must be located within Warren County. At least one member of the band must be a current or former resident of Warren County to qualify for the Battle of the Bands. In order to ensure only serious applicants, a submission fee of $50 is required before the submission will be reviewed. The deadline for submission is ***Extension- March 14th!***. Submissions are limited to two songs. Bands or individual musicians can submit a hard copy cd to the Chamber of Commerce or they can send a link to their digital files to tasteoftheug@gmail.com. We'll send you a PayPal invoice to complete the submission. The applicable genres include Americana, Alt-country, Blues, Folk, Bluegrass, Country, and Rockabilly. Rock n Roll will be considered but is not typically the genre for Bluegrass Underground. Independent judges will determine the four bands to qualify for the contest. On April 2nd, the winner of the contest will also be chosen by a panel of independent judges with one representing the winner of the total audience votes. 2015 Grammy nominee for Bluegrass Album of the Year and IBMA's 2014 Instrumental Group of the Year, Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen, will headline the musical event. They will be playing Bluegrass Underground during the Saturday tapings and then heading to the Park Theater to play an additional set. Frank Solivan, who has experience as a chef, has requested to be a judge in the food tasting before heading on stage. Winners of both contests will be announced at the end of the show. Winners of the food will be determined in the same manner; by a panel of independent judges with one representing the winner of the total audience votes.
