Weekly Wrap Up 2/4/2022

Administration/General


This week

  • I (Nolan Ming) participated as a panel member/interviewer in Signal Mountain’s hiring process for their new City Manager on Tuesday.
  • Compensation Study work groups held on Wednesday.
  • I performed several building inspections as Building Inspector was on vacation.

Next week

  • I will be meeting with TDOT officials on Monday to discuss the intersection of W. Main/Clark/Post.
  • Committee and Board of Mayor & Aldermen meetings to be held on Tuesday Feb. 8.
  • I will be attending the National Guard Armory Groundbreaker for the new facility on Manchester Hwy in Smartt Station.

Parks & Recreation


  • Performed routine maintenance and cleanup at parks, Milner Center, and Gilley Pool
  • Had a Teams Meeting with TN Dept. of Health over Healthy Built Environments Grant
  • Working on bid specs for Dog Park expansion
  • Scheduled for Athletic Coordinator and 3 Maintenance staff to attend the Athletic Maintenance school on Feb. 17th-18th
  • Installed breaker in front parking lot lights
  • Received and stored 24 tons of safe coat topdressing for ballfields
  • Attended equipment demo in Chattanooga
  • Installed more wheel stops in front parking lot
  • Prepped field for WCMS softball practices, which started on Cat Walker Field this week. 
  • Cleaned and repaired pool chlorinator
  • Prepared for set ups for room rentals and basketball games for the weekend

Community Development


This Week

  • Review of applicants for the open Building / Property Maintenance inspector position
  • Review of recent rezonings to aid in the update of City’s official zoning map
  • Worked to update the City’s GIS website for both internal and external use
  • Met with Andrew Pieri of Municipal Inspection Partners to discuss his firm’s services including commercial plan reviews and administrative hearing officer services
  • Consulted with state representatives concerning the necessary process to shift from a Regional Planning Commission to a Municipal Planning Commission should the city so desire
  • Continued work on ordinance to update to 2018 ICC Building Codes
  • Approval of three business licenses
  • Review of plans for hospital’s multimillion dollar lobby renovation
  • Consultation with TCAT on reconfiguring space to include a classroom within the workshop
  • Issued a Temporary Certificate of Use and Occupancy for Fazoli’s Italian Restaurant (open for training of staff only and not the public until full compliance is obtained)

Next Week

  • Continue work on ordinance to update to 2018 ICC Building Codes
  • Conducting interviews for the open Building / Property Maintenance inspector position
  • On-site meeting with TDOT representatives to discuss options at intersection of W. Main St., Clark Blvd, and Post Rd.
  • Presentation of zoning ordinance text amendments and rezoning to BOMA
  • Follow-up inspection on a stop work order for residential building construction without a permit
  • Community Engagement Committee meeting with city staff to discuss wayfinding

Water & Wastewater


  • Several water and sewer taps done
  • Water cutoffs done on Monday
  • Repaired several meter boxes and cleanouts
  • Repaired several water leaks
  • 4 sewer trouble calls
  • Removed tree roots from sewer manhole
  • Several 811 utility location calls
  • Several manhole locations performed for various projects 

Police


Chief Mosley this week attended the Tennessee Association of Chief’s of Police Meeting.  Governor Lee was present and discussed different topics affecting police departments today,  including officer recruitment and retention.

The Police Motorcycle is at Custom Vinyl this week getting the graphics/ seals applied.  We hope to have it out next week.

Public Works


  • Finished the floor in the vault at City Hall and put baseboards down
  • Removed concrete forms that we poured last week
  • Put plywood over broken window at Blue Building
  • Cleaned out ditches and cleaned debris off some grates
  • Patched potholes
  • Continued to take Christmas decorations down
  • Hank met with Stacy Basham from MTSU, Jimmy Haley, and Ann Brown at High St. cemetery about doing a workshop on cleaning and repairing historic tombstones
  • Worked on the place to put a salt shed
