Administration/General
This week
- Parks & Recreation committee meeting held on Wednesday 3/2.
- I (Nolan Ming) performed several plan reviews and building inspections since we don’t have a building inspector on staff.
- I coordinated with TDOT on final costs to be paid by the city for the Magness Drive project.
- I found out that Cripps Roofing will begin work on replacing the roof at City Hall on March 18.
- I met with Trane twice to discuss City Hall HVAC needs.
- I met with Chuck Haston from Warren County 911 to discuss emergency communications needs.
Next week
- I will continue to work with TDOT to finalize the final costs to be paid by the city for the Magness Drive project.
- Committee and Board of Mayor & Aldermen meetings to be held on Tuesday 3/8.
- New building inspector will be shadowing me.
Finance
- We have collected $4,376,432 in 2021 property taxes of a budgeted $4,560,000 (95.97% realized) through February 28th.
- This time last year we had received $4,323,330 of a budgeted $4,400,000 (98.26% realized)
- Late notices for 2021 taxes will be mailed out soon to remind those who may have forgotten the February 28th
- 2020 Taxes have been turned over to the Clerk & Master.
- The delinquent property tax sale by Warren County Chancery Court and Clerk & Master Myra Mara on March 1 was successful, all parcels were sold.
- We are researching a new time & attendance software to track employee work time and leave time that will work with our current software. We have a demo scheduled next week.
- Preparing budget documents for FY 2022/2023.
- Identified and started working on software solutions to improve processes with Robert Apple of Local Gov Corporation.
- Exploring online/electronic payment solutions as we are experiencing major delays with mail times.
Parks & Recreation
- With help from Public Works, forms for concrete we installed for next week at Pepper Branch to continue use of funds from Tourism Enhancement Grant.
- With help from Public Works, stone was poured at Pepper Branch near kayak launch pads and leveled to create better driving path for vehicles.
- Parks Maintenance Staff patched concrete on overlook at Pepper Branch in order to re-install part of fence lost due to flooding.
- Parks Ballfield Maintenance Staff prepared Pistole Park field for WCMS soccer games both Tuesday and Thursday of this week due to high school field being too wet for play.
- Kids Camp summer registration for returning campers took place March 3rd. New campers’ registration starts March 10th.
Community Development
This Week
- Municipal Inspection Partners started work providing temporary building inspection services
- Irson Horton (new Building and Property Maintenance inspector) started work
- Meeting with OpenGov Representatives concerning their online software solutions for our department
- Received and started review of interior plans for Planet Fitness to be in the old Hastings location at Northgate Shopping Center
- Attendance at Main St. McMinnville board meeting
- Attendance at Tennessee Chapter of the American Planning Association Conference and consultation with TDOT and UCDD on upcoming initiatives
- Continued work on Building Code, Sign Code and Zoning Code updates
- Review of existing property maintenance complaints and discussion of strategies to address existing issues
- Completion of additional GIS data layers and display on city website
- Completion of pedestrian crash mapping project
- Parks and Recreation Master Plan outreach at Young Men United meeting

- Meeting with Cloudpermit Demo concerning their online software solutions for our department

Police
- Our motorcycle unit played an integral role in a successful DUI stop this week. Working alongside an additional unit, direct contact with the driver, as well as traffic control for the stop were provided by the motorcycle unit.
- March is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Tennessee was reported to have the highest rate of distracted driving fatalities in the Nation. McMinnville Police Department along with Tennessee Highway Patrol are conducting special enforcements targeting distracted driving and other violations that increase crashes involving injuries.
Fire
- 17 EMS calls
- 1 vehicle fire
- 2 false alarm calls
- 1 sprinkler malfunction
- Delivered Meals on Wheels
- Interviews done for part-time firefighter position
- Working on this year’s budget
- Completed several fire inspections
- Picked up Tower One from the mechanic in Nashville and it’s back in service
