Administration/General  

This week

  • Committees and Board of Mayor and Aldermen met on Tuesday, May 24.
  • I (Nolan Ming) met with an architect to consider estimates for design and construction of a new Police Station from the ground up, and to consider separately an interior renovation of a portion of 202 Bell St. as an option for a new Police Station as well.
  • Worked with the Fire Department to finalize new Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs).
  • Worked with HFR/Wold (Architect for Milner Center) on closeout of the Milner Center project contract.
  • Coordinated with TDOT and consulting engineers on several different projects.
  • Continued coordination with CT Consultants and James C. Hailey Engineering on estimates for design and construction of Phase 3 of the Downtown Revitalization Project.
  • Worked on the budget.

Next week

  • City offices will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.
  • Committee meetings to be held on Thursday, June 2nd.
  • Continue working on the budget.

Finance

  • Water & Sewer, Streets & Sanitation, Parks & Recreation, and Building & Grounds Committees voted on Tuesday night to approve surplus property and recommend their respective. departmental budgets to the Finance Committee scheduled for June 2nd
  • We are on track for the first reading of the FY 22/23 Budget on June 14th
  • HR and Administration met with Jon Manful of Mark III to review employee insurance premiums for 2023. City employees have done an outstanding job reducing medical and prescription claims in 2022 so far.

Parks & Recreation  

  • Almost completed Tourism Enhancement Grant Pepper Branch Project.
  • MYBS games and practices ongoing.
  • Facility Usage:
    • Milner Center – From 5/19 to 5/26, we had 342 paid admission and 1123 swipes for a total 1465 people.
  • Events:
    • Thursday, May 26th- Saturday, May 28th, Security Federal Tennis Tournament
    • Saturday, May 28th- Opening Day of the Gilley Pool at 10am
    • Saturday, May 28th- 100th year celebration of Bernard School at Ramsey Park
    • Saturday , May 28th- Ronnie Milsap sold out concert at the Park Theater
    • Monday, May 30th- Milner Center Closed for Memorial Day. Gilley Pool is open normal business hours.
    • Reservations at parks and pavilions
    • June 4th- Relay for Life – Lot Rental rom 8am-10pm

Water & Wastewater  

  • Multiple service calls and locates for Water and Sewer.
  • Removed large tree from right of way on Crain Street.
  • Cleaned up warehouse and worked on inventory.
  • Checked pump stations.
  • TV of sewer line on Westwood 4th
  • Washed and vacuumed various wastewater pump stations.
  • Removed old pump station at Hobbs Park.
  • Washed sewer service on West Main.
  • Met with contractors on 202 Bell Street Roof.
  • Hauled scrap to Southern Central.

Police  

  • McMinnville Police Department welcomed Officer Zach Little this week. We are happy to have him on board.
  • Our monthly department lunch was held Wednesday.
  • Department personnel have participated in “train the trainer” training for our new software this week. The goal is to have it up and running by the end of June.
  • With many graduation celebrations and Memorial Day festivities planned for this weekend, we want to remind everyone to please celebrate responsibly.

Fire  

  • 21 medical calls
  • 2 vehicle accidents
  • 1 arcing equipment
  • 1 demolition fire
  • 1 good intent call bad smoke alarm
  • Station 2 helped with the color run at the Milner Center.
  • Went to Bobby Ray Elementary Tuesday to spray water for kids.
  • Delivered Meals on Wheels.
  • Finished Standard Operating Guidelines for the Fire Department.
  • Friday the department will be helping the lifeguards at the Gilly Pool with a 1st responder call.
  • The Fire Department wishes everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend.

Public Works  

  • Took up and reset forms for concrete at Pepper Branch Park and it is finished.
  • Replaced ceiling tile, light fixtures, and painted on the 3rd floor of City Hall from the roof leaking.
  • Put rock in a sink hole at the Senior Center.
  • Repaired some driveway tiles and driveways around town.
  • Cut some trees out of the right of way in different locations around town.
  • Got a forklift running so we could five it to the Sewer Department.

Community Development

  • Sean Garrett started work as out new Community Planner on Tuesday. We are excited to have him in the department as he brings years of community development experience to this position.
  • Preparation for next week’s Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Board of Adjustment Appeals, and Historic Zoning Commission meetings.
  • Consultation with engineer for property owners at 307 N. Spring St. concerning clients desire to redevelop the property.
  • Final Notice of Violation for property maintenance violations delivered to Sparta St. property owner.
  • Building plans received for 12 single-family residences to be located at Ground Floor Estates at the intersection of Union Hill Rd. and Meadow Brook Dr.
  • Received plans for the conversion of an old church to a single-family residence.
  • Coordination with property owner on Smithville Hwy to demolish remains of a building partially destroyed by fire.
  • Coordination with St. Catherine’s Church concerning proposed improvements at their property.
