Municipal Court

City CourtOVERVIEW
The primary functions of the Municipal Court are to keep records of all violations of city ordinances and to collect all fines and costs. Municipal Court is held at 101 East Main Street, 2nd floor City Hall on Mondays at 4:00 P.M. The Court Clerk’s office is located in the police department.


COURT FINES

The City of McMinnville Municipal City Court has a cash appearance bond schedule for speeding, parking, and most other violations. You may pay the cash appearance bond before court and avoid the court appearance.

COURT PROCEDURE
When your name is called, proceed to the front of the room. You will be asked if you are “guilty” or “not guilty” of the charge for which you have been cited. If you plead “guilty,” your case will be adjudicated at that time. If you plead “not guilty,” a hearing will be scheduled for a later date.

METHOD OF PAYMENT
We accept cash, cashier’s checks, credit/debit cards, money orders or personal checks written on a local bank with preprinted personal information.

SAFETY SCHOOL
Safety Schools are scheduled on Saturday Mornings at 9AM and Thursdays at 5PM. The cost of Safety School is $100.00 which must be paid prior to class. This is a state certified class.

You may NOT attend safety school if:

  • It has been less than two years since you attended a safety school sponsored by the McMinnville Police Department.
  • You were charged with speeding more than 20 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
  • You were charged in a school zone with speeding more than 15 miles per hour over the posted speed limit.
  • You have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (Tennessee Law 55-10-301c)
