Administration 

  • This Week
    • I (Nolan Ming) met with several department directors for our monthly one-on-one meetings.
    • I tracked several different items impacting municipalities that are moving through the State legislative process.
    • I met with several community members about different issues.
    • I worked with the City Attorney on preparing the quitclaim deeds for the surplus properties that were recently sold.
  • Next Week
    • Committee and Board of Mayor & Aldermen meetings will be held on Tuesday. 
    • We will continue working on the upcoming budget.

Police 

  • This Week
    • There are still a few open positions for our Teen Citizens Police Academy. Please come by the Police Department located on the 3rd Floor of City Hall for an application. 
  • Next Week
    • Continued work with the Slow Down TN campaign and reminder yard sign efforts. This campaign is designed to remind everyone about the importance of maintaining a safe speed when traveling our local roadways. 
    • Department personnel continue to attend various trainings in a variety of areas. 

Fire 

  • This Week
    • All shifts did pre-plan walkthroughs at a local manufacturing facility.
    • All shifts had a great opportunity to train in a vacant house slated for demolition.
    • Submitted a FEMA Assistance to Firefighters grant application for portable radios. Special thanks to Lyndon Bussell for assisting! 
    • Will partner with the MPD at the Hopping Into Health event being held at the Milner Center on Saturday by doing a car seat check event.
  • Next Week
    • We will be submitting another THSO grant application for a battery-operated extrication spreader tool.
    • Firefighter/EMTB Joel McGlothen will be attending a Hazardous Materials Awareness Class.
Parks & Recreation 

  • This Week
    • Tournament week of the McMinnville Youth Basketball League
    • Working on Parks and Recreation and Park Theater budgets
    • Hopping into Health event- Sat. 3/9 in Room 101 from 12 pm to 2 pm
    • Preparing baseball fields and soccer fields for upcoming spring leagues
    • Hosting tennis match- WCHS vs Boyd

    • Spring break week activities at the Milner Center

Park Theater 

  • This Week
    • The Park Theater will be featured on “The American Dream” an internet show with lifestyle and tourism features that is geared towards the real estate community. The camera crew was here today (Tuesday) to get some footage and info for that.
    • Puffs: Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic (a play presented by Warren Arts) – March 7 & 8, 2024 at 7:00 pm – Tickets are currently on sale and will also be available at the door before both shows.
    • Sea Chanters: The U.S. Navy Band Official Chorus – Saturday, March 9, 2024 @ 7:00 pm – Free Show!

Community Development 

  • This Week
    • Attended the Monthly Main Street McMinnville Meeting
    • Prepared for the March 12th BoMA meeting.
    • Met with a potential developer on several lots in the city.
    • Met with a developer about possible annexation of property into the city.
    • Prepared for the special called Historic Zoning Commission meeting.
  • Next Week
    • Special called Historic Zoning Commission meeting Wednesday, 3/16/24 at 10 am.
Water & Wastewater 

  • This Week
    • Read meters throughout the city
    • Ran services for city hall
    • Located water and sewer lines for 811
    • Removed Loading dock equipment at the Water Maintenance Shop
    • Cut off meters due to non-payment
    • Removed back roof at the loading dock at the Water Maintenance Shop, and hauled off scrap metal.
    • Checked sewer mains for high flow, as well as checked the sewer mains for incoming into the sewer stations.
    • Installed strobe lights on new dump truck
    • Installed new E1 pump station at 352 S. Chancery St.
    • Checked all pump stations
    • Collected yearly sodium water sample, and sent off for analysis.
    • Met with the roof contractor at the Water Maintenance Shop.
    • Set up and installed a new chemical feed line at the Water Treatment Plant.
  • Next Week
    • Drain and clean a sedimentation basin at the Water Treatment Plant
    • Collect certified bacteriological samples for analysis.
